ROYAL ROSARIAN
HONORARY KNIGHTING CEREMONY
JUNE 5, 2009
I am sitting among a small gathering of people in one of the
most beautiful spots on earth, my thoughts mulling the significance of just turning
60 the day before. The wind shifts gently and the perfume of a thousand roses swirl
and blend within the green moist shadows and mists. The delicate rain of an
early June morning reawakens my senses, and again I am reconnected to this part
of the world I have called home for over a quarter of a century. I look around to study all of us sitting in
this place of honor, the amphitheater of Portland's West Hill's Rose Garden; Initiates
awaiting the Grand Entrance of the Queen of the mythical court of Rosaria. We
are to be knighted and recognized as statesmen, community leaders and significant
personalities by this nation's oldest and most successful "Order of the Rose."
